Nidhi Krümpelmann (Mumbai → Mettingen)
Hi! I’m Nidhi, and my journey from Mumbai, India, to Germany has been nothing short of an adventure. Arriving in 2020, I thought I had it all figured out – I had a cheat code to bypass Germany’s administrative processes: my German husband. However, reality hit hard, and I quickly realised that settling into a new country isn’t as straightforward as I had imagined.
Determined to make the transition smoother for others, my husband and I began assisting Indian friends and a few Ukrainian refugees with their paperwork and other necessities, especially in situations where the German language posed a barrier. Through this experience, we discovered the profound impact of offering guidance and support during such crucial times of adjustment.
Now, here at Plusforta, I couldn’t be happier. We’re not just building an Expats platform; we’re creating a community where fellow Indians can find the resources and assistance they need to thrive in Germany. With our firsthand experience and passion for helping others, we’re committed to making the journey of settling in a new country a little easier for everyone.
Anar Hagverdiyev (Baku → Cologne)
Salam! I’m Anar, and my journey from Azerbaijan to Germany in 2022 was filled with both excitement and challenges. Moving to Cologne with my wife to work at my company’s office seemed like a dream come true, but as with every expat, navigating through Germany’s administrative system proved to be a daunting task.
I turned to various forums and sources for information, trying to grasp the intricacies of life in Germany. One crucial aspect that caught me off guard was the compulsory registration upon arrival – the Anmeldung. It was my landlord who enlightened me about this requirement, highlighting the importance of local knowledge in settling into a new country. My limited German skills often posed challenges, especially when dealing with official paperwork and applications. However, the real turning point came when I contemplated changing jobs. Confusion over my visa status left me on the verge of packing my bags and returning to Azerbaijan to start anew.
It was during these moments of uncertainty that I realised the critical need for a platform like ours. I’m thrilled to be a part of this initiative, knowing firsthand the difference it can make in the lives of fellow expats.

Marc Runkel (San Francisco → Dusseldorf)
I’m Marc, and my story is a fusion of American upbringing and German heritage. Born and raised in beautiful California, USA, I still always felt a strong connection to my German roots through my parents as they had both emigrated from Germany. In 2012, my American wife and I made the decision to take advantage of my German passport and relocate to Dusseldorf, Germany.
Thanks to my German citizenship and fluency in the language, my journey to Germany was relatively smooth. However, I was well aware of the bureaucratic hurdles and administrative requirements that awaited us. Determined to ensure a seamless transition, we took meticulous steps to prepare in advance.
One example of my preparation was setting up an appointment with the registration office while still in the US, scheduled for the day after my arrival in Germany. This proactive approach helped me navigate the initial administrative tasks with ease, setting the tone for my new life in Germany.
Now I am excited to extend that same level of preparation and support to others embarking on their journey to Germany. My goal is simple: to empower every individual with the knowledge and resources they need to plan ahead and navigate the complexities of relocating to a new country seamlessly.
